Stone Beetles 1 is an exploration of one of my great pleasures in having been a scientist (and still is as a nature lover), and that is the diversity of a single species (or type of anything!) I first noticed this as a seven year-old collecting little quartz crystals - they were all sort of the same but each one was different! Scientific classification is essential to understanding the big picture, but environment of growth differs constantly and so effects every growing thing in a slightly different way.

My little bugs here are of two ‘species’, and the form of the body parts varies with the vagaries of surf washing the stones to the habit of growth of the twigs.
